We want to take African art into the digital space and show, in practice, which technologies can serve as the tools to get it there.

The Fusion

The creative and cultural idea

In one room we bring together living, hand-made African art — painting, sculpture, wood art, textiles and pottery — and the digital tools of a new generation of creative technologists: TouchDesigner, p5.js, VR and AR, and Unity. Visitors won't just look at the work; they'll see traditional forms animated, projected, made interactive and extended into virtual space. Imole is the first step; its legacy is an ongoing streaming platform that carries African artists and their work to audiences far beyond a single event.
